Salt, Glue & Watercolor Art

Raised glue lines soak up watercolor and salt bursts into starry textures — pure quiet magic.

Ages 3+5 min plus drying prep

What you'll need

  • Dark cardstock or black paper
  • White school glue in a squeeze bottle
  • Table salt
  • Liquid watercolors or diluted food coloring
  • Small paintbrushes and bowls
  • A tray to catch loose salt

How to make it

  1. 1

Squeeze glue onto the paper in swirls, hearts, or letters.

  2. 2

Sprinkle salt generously over the wet glue and shake off the excess.

  3. 3

Dip a brush into watercolor and gently touch it to the salted lines.

  4. 4

Watch the color travel along the salt like magic.

  5. 5

Let the artwork dry flat overnight.

Tip

Try just one or two colors at a time to keep the effect soft and dreamy.
