A cardboard frame, a stretch of clear tape sticky-side-out, and a treasure hunt of petals and leaves — turn nature finds into a see-through picture or a wearable bracelet.
The night before, cut the cardboard into a square frame — leave a border of about 3 cm around a square window in the middle. Set it in the basket with the tape and scissors.
In the morning, take the basket outside for a nature walk together. Invite your child to gather anything small and beautiful: petals, leaves, blades of grass, tiny twigs, seeds.
Back at the table, stretch a piece of clear packing tape across the back of the cardboard window with the sticky side facing forward (toward you). Press the tape edges firmly onto the cardboard border.
Turn the frame around so the sticky tape faces up like a see-through canvas.
Let your child press their nature finds onto the sticky surface, arranging them however they like — a garden, a face, a rainbow, or just a happy jumble.
Once the picture is finished, stretch a second piece of clear tape across the front to seal everything in, sticky side down onto the first layer.
Trim any tape edges and hang the frame in a sunny window so the light shines through the leaves and petals like stained glass.
For the bracelet variation: wrap a short strip of clear tape around your child's wrist with the sticky side facing OUT. Head back outside and let them press tiny petals, blades of grass, and small leaves onto the bracelet as they walk — they will come home wearing a wearable garden.
Fresh petals look brightest for a day or two, then dry beautifully inside the tape. For the bracelet, wrap it loose enough to slide off easily at bedtime. Skip anything spiky, sticky-sappy, or with bugs on it. This activity works in every season — spring petals, summer grasses, autumn leaves, winter evergreen sprigs and seeds.
