What you'll need
- A wooden recorder or tin whistle
- A small harmonica
- A kazoo (or a comb wrapped in wax paper for a homemade one)
- 5-6 drinking straws cut to different lengths for a homemade panpipe
- Strong tape
How to make it
- 1
Line up the cut straws side by side from longest to shortest and tape them together to make a panpipe.

Show your child how to blow gently across the top of the straws, not into them.

Try the recorder next: cover no holes and blow softly to hear the highest note, then cover one hole at a time.

Hum into the kazoo — the vibration will surprise them.
- 5
Let your child pick a favorite and play a tiny concert while you clap.
- 6
Wipe each mouthpiece before returning it to the basket.
Tip
Blow softly, not hard. Making the softest possible sound is a wonderful breathing exercise for little ones.
